Networking Tips for the Fitness Pro

May 18, 2018 | in Business

In the fitness industry, networking is essential.

Whether you’re looking to partner with other fitness professionals or contemporary brands, networking will ultimately help you better strategize and expand your business. Not feeling like a LinkedIn pro lately? No worries, we’ve collected some tips and resources to help you get out there.

If you want to grow big, start small. Expand your local community and establish your presence as a knowledgeable and reliable fitness professional. Networking is all about creating and maintaining professional relationships that will further your career. Spoiler alert: this doesn’t happen overnight. Just like any other relationship, they require effort. Try to learn a few personal facts about your clients; this will show that you care about them as people not just clients.

Know your elevator pitch, a brief and persuasive speech to spark interest, and make it authentic. If you meet someone in a class, be able to explain what you do and what you’re looking for concisely.

Also, show some love to instructors and businesses in your area. Offer to collaborate with them and host a sesh together! For instance, our epic California trainer trio, Three Sisters Love Yoga, partnered with their local Root Community Store to host event for their community! We’ve had yoga instructors pair a yoga class with hiking, paddle boarding, skateboarding, wellness rituals, cannabis ceremonies, and loads more.  Don’t be afraid to think out of the box and reach out!

Social media is a perfect place for fitness professionals to connect, collaborate and learn from one another. See someone in the fitness industry that’s doing something you think is cool? Follow them. Like their photos. Learn from their engagement styles and posts. You never know who might be thinking the same about your page! Reach out to them and let them know you’re interested in co-hosting an event. Follow the studios where you teach and want to teach for. Follow the brands you dream of collaborating with. Bottom line: don’t be afraid to reach out. It’s most likely that they’ll want to connect with you too!

Stay up to date with the latest in your industry and meet like-minded professionals at fitness and wellness conferences. These conferences offer the perfect opportunity to network with industry leaders and new thinkers. Learn from lectures and keynote speakers on how to optimize business softwares, grow your social media presence and client base and diversify your workouts. Attend social events to meet and partner with other fitness go-getters. Each event provides time for networking, so make sure to take advantage of that time. PS - don’t forget your business cards!
